How to Reheat Food in an Air Fryer Without Drying It Out
Use the right temperatures and timings to reheat pizza, fries, chicken and pastries while keeping their texture.

How to Reheat Food in an Air Fryer Without Drying It Out
An air fryer restores crispness to leftovers with fast, dry heat. It works especially well for pizza, fries, breaded chicken and pastries. To prevent drying, use a lower temperature than the original cook and check often.
Starting settings
Timing depends on thickness, quantity and starting temperature. Use this table as a starting point for refrigerated food:
| Food | Temperature | Approximate time |
|---|---|---|
| Pizza slice | 160°C | 3–5 min |
| Fries or potatoes | 180°C | 3–6 min |
| Breaded chicken | 170°C | 4–7 min |
| Pastry | 150°C | 2–4 min |
| Roasted vegetables | 160°C | 3–6 min |
Turn or shake halfway through. Reheat large quantities in batches so air can circulate.
Keep a pleasant texture
A very light coating of oil helps fries and breaded foods regain a crisp surface. For food that dries easily, lower the temperature instead of adding lots of fat. Reheat sauce separately or in an oven-safe dish, never directly in a perforated basket.
Quiche Lorraine, fried chicken and roast potatoes all reheat well this way.
Should you preheat?
For one or two small portions, a short preheat can produce a crisper surface. For gentle reheating, start cold and add a minute if needed. Read our air fryer preheating guide to decide by food type.
Reheat safely
Refrigerate leftovers promptly after the original meal and respect their storage life. Heat them until piping hot throughout. Avoid reheating the same food several times. For a thick portion, a food thermometer is more reliable than surface colour.
Suitable containers
A small oven-safe dish works for gratins and moist food. It must fit below the heating element and leave space around its edges. See useful sizes and materials in our essential accessory guide and selection of air fryer tins and tools.
Start short, check and add one minute at a time. This protects texture better than setting a long cycle without checking.
